ETP Plant or Effluent Treatment Plant is a type of wastewater treatment method that is specifically designed to purify industrial wastewater for its reuse and its aim is to release pure water to the environment from the harmful effect caused by the effluent.
What is effluent water?
By the United States Environmental Protection Agency, effluent is defined as “wastewater – treated or untreated flowing out of a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial outfall. Most often it refers to the wastes discharged into surface waters”. The only effluent refers to liquid discharge.
What is Primary Filtration?
The first stage of the effluent treatment plant is where mostly effluent water is coming from weaving, dyeing, printing or finishing unit. Primary filtration here is performed to remove solid waste particles. Effluent is like a mixture of solid and liquid industry waste material. Pressure Filter: Here, the filtration process is done under pressure.
In sewage treatment mostly there are three stages involved, primary, secondary and tertiary treatment.
In Water recycling process effluent (wastewater and sewage) water is treated for reuse. Especially for drinking purpose, the recycled water is intended to be treated to a high-level treatment favorable for human consumption.
Typically water treatment process consists of several steps in it. These include: (1) Collection; (2) Screening and Straining; (3) Chemical Addition; (4) Coagulation and Flocculation; (5) Sedimentation and Clarification; (6) Filtration; (7) Disinfection; (8) Storage; (9) and at last Distribution.

- Surface Water-It includes water from streams, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and wetlands.
- Ground Water-Groundwater that makes up around 22% of the water we use is the water beneath the earth’s surface filling cracks and other openings in beds of rock and sand.
Effluent standards pertain directly to the quality of the treated wastewater discharged from a sewage treatment plant. The controlling factors under the standards usually include biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), suspended solids, acidity, and coliforms.
